SPAR Gran Canaria will have more than 200 points of sale on the island this year

The Canarian supermarket chain plans to continue growing its expansion plan during 2025, opening between 2 and 3 new supermarkets in various locations in Gran Canaria during the first quarter of this year. With these new openings, the SPAR Gran Canaria group would achieve a major milestone: reaching more than 200 physical points of sale spread across the 21 municipalities of the island.

After 39 years of activity on the island, SPAR Gran Canaria has become a leading supermarket chain that has maintained, since its beginnings, its hallmarks of proximity and closeness to its customers. Throughout its history, the Gran Canaria supermarket chain has promoted the consumption of local products through important agreements signed with local farmers, such as the La Aldea tomato agreement, which will soon be renewed for the fifth consecutive year; or the local potato agreement, which will celebrate its 16th edition this year; the Telde orange agreement, which will be signed for the 13th consecutive year; and the Valleseco apple agreement, which will be renewed after the summer for the fourth consecutive time.

Over the past year, the chain has also invested in innovation, incorporating a new line of prepared meals into its supermarkets. This project responds to the needs of consumers, who are looking for greater convenience and immediacy by purchasing prepared and packaged meals to consume immediately.

In addition to physical growth and the addition of a new line of business, SPAR Gran Canaria has also opted to improve the shopping experience of its customers, launching its own online sales platform last year. The SPAR Gran Canaria group has thus reinforced its omnichannel strategy, adding its own e-commerce channel to the two immediate delivery services it already had, through strategic quick-commerce partners Uber Eats and Glovo, and to the physical points of sale on the island. With its omnichannel strategy, the chain is able to be closer to all customers on the island, responding to the growing demand for these services.

During 2025, the Canarian business group will also continue to develop its modernization plan, renovating several supermarkets on the island to provide a more comfortable and pleasant shopping experience in nearby stores that are more sustainable and adapted to the current needs of customers.
