El Castillo del Romeral is the new champion of Canarian Wrestling in the First Category of Gran Canaria

A great show was witnessed on Friday night at the Terrero de Vecindario. After six years of absence, Gran Canaria once again witnessed a First Division final that more than met the expectations created in the previous weeks. With the Tirajana venue completely full, and lots of colour in the stands, the Canarian Wrestling fans enjoyed themselves from start to finish.

 

 

After the initial presentation we saw two teams that remained cautious in the first fights. El Castillo took a 2-0 lead, with the first stellar fight of the night being led by Chus García, a wrestler from El Castillo, who took a combative Hilquias Jiménez to the ground. The wrestler from La Palma recovered, eliminating his rival in a third fight that brought the Valsequilla fans to their feet.

 

Irving Landaeta came on to try to balance the scales for Almogarén. But the youth and boldness of Aridane Suárez were enough to knock the El Hierro team out of the fight. It was then that Ayose Ramírez, the Valsequillo team's boss, gave way to Raúl Mayor, who quickly beat Daniel Robaina. Alejandro Lasso tried for Castillo, but Hilquias Jiménez once again showed great skill by giving him two in a row.

 

The heartbeat was “in crescendo” when Fredy Segovia and Raúl Mayor met in the centre of the pitch. After a first duel without a winner, it was Fredy who added a new point for Castillo, reaching 4-3, just before Aridane Suárez and Alejandro Landaeta measured their strength. After two close fights on both sides, Aridane made it 5-3 to the madness of the yellow fans. Despite coming out battered, but winning in the first, Fredy Segovia showed his courage to make it 6-3 for San Bartolomé, against a Hilquias Jiménez whose intensity in the fight ended up taking its toll. Almogarén tried to stop the bleeding, but Fernando Godoy “El Aldeano” frustrated their intentions by knocking down Sonny Santana in the third fight to make it 7-3.

 

Ayose Ramírez wanted to change the subject and brought on Leandro González, Destacado C, and the Déniz brothers, Ismael and Álvaro, both Puntales C. The three responded to his confidence, leaving Aridane Suárez, Fredy Segovia and Fernando Godoy out of the fight, reducing the difference to 7-6. Francisco Bethencourt knew that we were entering the decisive part of the fight, and put Juan Luis Goya in the ring to face Ismael Déniz. El Pollo de Moya IV showed off his versatility to, after winning two in a row, put the score at 7-7, just before Álvaro, after a close fight, managed to beat Carlos Santana to make it 7-8.

 

Almogarén's joy was short-lived, as Fran Rodríguez del Toro managed to equalise 8-8 after winning against Leandro González. Miguel Pérez, Puntal B del Castillo, got the 9-8 after beating Fran Cazorla in the first round, with the second round separated. Álvaro Déniz gave his all against Efraín Guedes, but the strength of the fighter from Castillo cancelled out the intensity of the eldest of the Déniz brothers. Both were eliminated due to four warnings. The effectiveness of Ismael Déniz allowed Almogarén to draw 10-10, with great superiority over Fran Rodríguez del Toro.

 

The time had come for the mainstays. Miguel Pérez for Castillo and Ricardo Rodríguez “Medianito IV” for Almogarén. The crowd roared and both were ready to give their best. However, their inaction ended up leading to three mutual warnings, which raised the score to 11-11. Ismael Déniz and Rayco Santiago, two old acquaintances with a Gáldar past, remained standing. The contest between the two was full of intensity, but ended without a resolution on both occasions, which produced the 12-12 and the subsequent sudden death.

 

Both leaders chose a total of ten fighters for each side, knowing that the first to touch the ground would give in to his rival. Ismael Déniz and Rayco Santiago repeated the first duel with the same result. In the second, Juan Luis Goya once again showed off his refined technique to defeat Fran Cazorla and make Castillo the Champion of First Division eighteen years later.
