Gardening and floristry students from the Faro de Maspalomas and El Tablero I-Aguañac institutes have already recovered almost a thousand meters of arid soil from INTA as a self-sufficient xerophytic garden
The Department of Parks and Gardens of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council, headed by Araceli Armas Cruz and coordinated by Eduardo Armas Herrera, has once again participated with the Faro de Maspalomas and El Tablero I-Aguañac institutes in the landscaping and improvement tasks of the premises of the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) in Maspalomas.
The landscaping of the Aerospace Center emerged as a civic-military collaboration project at the end of 2023, at the initiative of its director, Colonel J. Alvaro Martínez Villalobo, with the dual intention of recovering and beautifying the free spaces of the site and, at the same time, establishing collaborative alliances with the municipality's educational centers and their students from an informative perspective on the technical and research work carried out at the INTA base.
In this edition, the work carried out by the students of the Gardening and Floristry training cycles at the IES Faro and of Agrogardening and Floral Compositions at the IES El Tablero as complementary practical classes have allowed another 350 square metres to be advanced in the task of beautifying the site.
The second deputy mayor, Elena Álamo Vega, and the councillor for Education, Esther Delgado Sánchez, checked in situ with the director of INTA and the councillor for Parks and Gardens the work formalised as a team by the students of both institutes.
Thanks to the interventions carried out in previous years, in which students from the Adapted FP also participated, almost a thousand square metres of land have already been recovered and designed as self-sufficient xerophytic green spaces, dedicated to housing cacti and different types of succulent plants characteristic of island botany that require only minimal water consumption during the first two years of planting.
