Teodoro Sosa launches with Onalia Bueno the Molino Quemado, a cultural asset now a museum in Mogán

YURENA VEGA Wednesday, February 19, 2025

The Vice President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Teodoro Sosa, and the Mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, reopened this Wednesday the Molino Quemado, a cultural asset that has been adapted to house a museum exhibition of this BIC next to the GC-200 road. Both the mill and its surroundings have been turned into a museum, the aim being to open this space to the public as a cereal interpretation centre. The Molino Quemado or Windmill of Mogán, a Cultural Asset of Interest (BIC) since 2008, has been intervened for its interior museographic equipment through the installation of models and touch screens with multimedia applications so that visitors can learn all the information regarding the history and function of this monument as well as other mills existing on the island.

The interior musealisation of the Windmill is a reason for celebration for Mayor Bueno, as it “gives added value to the cultural heritage of the municipality” where “today we have the Cañada de Los Gatos Archaeological Zone, where we inaugurated its reception a few months ago, now we are incorporating the Molino Quemado museum and in the near future the traditional fishing museum in Playa de Mogán”. Therefore, Mogán “will have three museums throughout the current legislature and will appear in the Gran Canaria map museum”, said the councillor during the visit.

The Molino Quemado has two pedestrian entrances from the GC-200 road. Along the route of the site there are four interpretation tables, as well as a PMR toilet module and an administrative area for the management of the monument and the museum environment. There is also a shaded area where the public service and reception desk has been installed. The site, which is fully accessible, has land dedicated to the cultivation of cereals and a square created as an educational space. Finally, a general rate of 2 euros will be established for individual visits, although a reduced rate of 1 euro will be applied for group visits of more than fifteen people, schoolchildren and pensioners.
