A 61-year-old woman was rescued by a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) after suffering a fall on a difficult-to-access path in Ayacata, municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana

A 61-year-old hiker was rescued on Thursday afternoon by a helicopter belonging to the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Government of the Canary Islands after suffering a fall on a difficult-to-access path in Ayacata, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The victim had a moderate knee injury.

The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 received the alert at 16:09 hours, immediately activating the necessary emergency resources. Since the location of the incident made access difficult for ground teams, a GES rescue helicopter was mobilised to proceed with the evacuation.

The rescuers reached the victim and, after providing her with initial assistance on the spot, they evacuated her by aircraft to the helipad of the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital. Later, a basic life support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) completed the transfer to the hospital's emergency service, where she remained under medical observation.

The rescue operation involved members of the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) with a rescue helicopter, a basic life support ambulance from the SUC, as well as agents from the Local Police, who were in charge of instructing the corresponding proceedings.
