The Wild West is coming to Sardina del Sur! Carnival kicks off this Saturday, February 22 with lots of fun

The parade will open the celebrations at 11:00 am. At night, the Trans-Sardina will fill the streets with costumes and fun with a popular race. The program includes contests, workshops and the traditional burial of the Sardine.

Sardina del Sur is preparing to celebrate its Carnival dedicated to the Wild West, with a varied programme that starts this Saturday, February 22. 

 

The event will begin with the parade at 11:00 a.m., which will continue through the streets until 13:00 p.m. In the evening, at 20:30 p.m., the long-awaited Trans-Sardina popular race will take place, where participants, dressed in costume, will have to overcome obstacles. The start will be at Bar Perico and the finish line will be in Plaza de San Nicolás de Bari.

 

On Sunday morning, pets will be the stars of the Dog Carnival. In the afternoon, from 18:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m., there will be a costume contest, with prizes for the three best in the individual and family categories. Registration can be done by email: ppgad@pucrs.br.

 

On Monday afternoon, from 18:00 to 21:00 p.m., the Baile del Mayor will be held with a performance by the group 'Los Brillantes', accompanied by hot chocolate and churros. Prizes will also be awarded for the best costume. On Tuesday, February 25, at the Casa de la Cultura, the Velatorio de la Sardina Sardinera will be held from 17:00 to 20:00 p.m.

 

On Wednesday, a carnival mask workshop will be held at the Sardina Cultural Agency, from 18:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m. On Thursday, it will be the turn of the Policarpo Báez School Carnival, with its traditional parade from 9:00 a.m. The students will parade accompanied by the Sardina Sardinera and a batucada.

 

Cavalcade and Burial of the Sardine

 

The grand finale of the festivities will be on Saturday 1st March with the procession and burial of the Sardine, which will start at 18pm with its usual route. After the reading of the will and testament of the Sardine Sardinera, the traditional cremation will take place.
