The new agents achieved the best qualifications among the 223 people who submitted a request to participate in the public call

Since 2019, 27 new officers have joined the Corps. Until then, the staff had last increased in 2002.

The Mogán Local Police presented its 22 new officers this Saturday, February 10, eight men and two women. All of them took possession of their posts in an institutional ceremony chaired by the Mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and the acting head of the Corps, Marcos Domínguez. In addition, the Canine Unit was presented, specifically the first dog that integrates it, a German shepherd trained for this purpose.

The new officers took possession at the El Mocán Cultural Centre in front of members of the Municipal Corporation, now colleagues from the Local Police of Mogán and other municipalities, the National Police, the Civil Guard, family members, friends. Of the 223 who applied for the call, they were the ones who achieved the best scores adding up the four physical tests, the psychotechnical test as well as the theoretical and practical exam related to the Security Forces and Corps.

“It is an honour for me to incorporate 10 new agents,” said the mayor, highlighting, when referring to the only two women in the group, the need to have more women in the Mogán Local Police, and in general in all the Security Forces. Bueno explained that since 2015, four opposition processes have already been held through which 27 new officers have been added. Specifically, 4 in 2019, another 13 in 2023, and now 10. Until then, 17 years had passed since the last call, through which 11 agents entered the Corps.

However, he assures that this streak will not stop. “Our commitment is to continue increasing the workforce” he said, announcing that another 4 new positions will be created and that, “of course, we will do the same to fill those that become vacant due to retirement.”

The mayor boasted that the Mogan Local Police is one of the best equipped with resources. “We will continue to improve in whatever is necessary and I know that will be the case because the officers work hand in hand with a person who has been at the forefront since 2015 and has committed to revaluing the Force” she said, referring to the first deputy mayor and councillor for Citizen Security, Mencey Navarro.

Bueno congratulated the new officers, asking them to “devote themselves and be loyal to the Corps, the institution and the municipality.” He also urged them to continue their training. “In this world of constant change and demands, we must be able to adapt,” he said, reminding them that from today “they must always be at the service of the citizens to help, assist, serve and protect.”

The mayor of Mogan extended her congratulations to the families of the officers. “I am sure that they have been an essential support” she said, also addressing the evaluation committee “for their excellent professionalism and dedication”.

The Mogán Local Police currently has 48 officers, to which the 11 who have taken office today will be added. But first, they must attend the training facilities of the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands in Añaza, Tenerife, by May. They will then join the Local Police service as trainee officers for 1.200 hours.

The event was attended by the aforementioned authorities, the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Isidro Armas, the Lieutenant Commander of the Puerto Rico Main Post of the Civil Guard, Rubén Arroyo, and the Inspector of the National Police of Maspalomas, Luis Ignacio Santamaría, in addition to other representatives of these bodies.
