In 2025, Councillor Álamo Vega has promoted the involvement of a greater number of companies in the municipality in an innovative project aimed at the labour insertion of women who have been victims of gender violence. This programme includes the possibility of transferring those affected to other municipalities or islands if necessary.
Recently, Meeting Point and Satocan have joined this initiative, formalising their collaboration through an agreement that has an initial duration of four years, with the option to extend it for another four. Meeting Point undertakes to forward available job offers to the Council and to fill four vacancies annually with women from the municipality, in addition to offering opportunities in its hotels in other locations.
Satocan also undertakes to send job offers and to hold an annual employability workshop for users of the Municipal Gender Violence Service. Both companies, together with the City Council, will work on the development or revision of an Equality Plan and a protocol for action against gender violence in their establishments.
These agreements do not entail any financial commitments for the City Council or the companies, although companies may benefit from taxes for hiring women in accordance with Organic Law 1/2004 on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence. The Department of Equality launched this project on June 25, 2024, with the signing of the first collaboration agreement with the Princess hotel chain.
Elena Álamo Vega highlights the importance of involving more companies in this initiative, emphasizing that job placement and economic independence are key factors for women to escape situations of dependency and violence, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the affected families.
