Alejandro Marichal: “It is necessary to update and improve not only our tourist destination, but also the events that represent it”
Yilenia Vega: “We must bet on a more careful image of the procession and this year, more than 60 floats will parade under the Mexican theme of our Carnival”
The Department of Tourism, Festivities and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has held the draw with which the final list of the 100 floats that will be part of the Great Parade of the Maspalomas International Carnival 2025 has been created. In this way, it has been possible to reduce the 125 registered floats to the 100 that can participate, in compliance with the regulations established by the Department of Security. After the registration and selection process, the float makers attended the draw held at the Maspalomas Cultural Center, with which the order in which they will parade on Saturday, March 29, 2025 has been established. The Councilor for Festivities and Events, Yilenia Vega, has highlighted the good atmosphere with which the draw was carried out, and thanks the collaboration and understanding of the float makers during the celebration of the same.
The registration procedure was carried out between January 27 and February 5 through the GESTICAB online platform, requiring compliance with a series of technical and aesthetic requirements. The Local Police reviewed the technical documentation of the vehicles, while the Festivities and Events area validated the sketches presented, ensuring that the floats maintained a more professional aesthetic and were in keeping with the spirit of the carnival.
The provisional list detected errors in the documentation of 35 floats, which led to an additional five-day period being granted to correct the deficiencies. A total of 16 incidents were related to the design of the sketches because they did not comply with the established bases, while the rest did not comply with technical and safety aspects of the vehicles, such as the collective liability insurance policy, the ITV, the validation certification and the documentation of the fire extinguishers.
In accordance with the decision of the Department of Celebrations and Events, this year special emphasis has been placed on the design of the floats, establishing this criterion as a determining factor in the admission of participants. “A more careful image of the procession is necessary, so this year the floats will parade with a better aesthetic,” said councillor Yilenia Vega. This event, the most crowded of the Maspalomas International Carnival, brings together more than 300.000 people, so, in the words of Vega, “we have opted to improve the quality and design of the floats, guaranteeing that the Grand Procession projects an image in keeping with the prestige of our tourist destination.”
For his part, the First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, congratulated the team from the Department of Tourism, Celebrations and Events for their commitment to improving the Grand Parade, stressing the importance of updating and improving not only the tourist destination, but also the events that represent it. “The Maspalomas Carnival is the event that attracts the most tourists and it was necessary to rethink it to adapt it to new times and demands. With this approach, we seek not only to consolidate the parade as a benchmark for the Maspalomas Carnival, but also to enhance its international appeal and its impact on local tourism.”
The 2025 Maspalomas Carnival will be held from March 18th to 30th under the theme 'Mexican Love'. Vega celebrated that “in honor of this theme, more than 60 floats will parade with motifs inspired by Mexican culture and folklore.” The final list of the 100 participating floats will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, on the notice board, and on the municipal website www.maspalomas.com.
