The plenary session of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Corporation supports allocating 284.000 euros of asphalt to the work from the Cooperation Plan with the Cabildo
The plenary also gives its final approval to the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana
The unanimous vote of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana corporate plenary session approved this Thursday, in its ordinary session for the month of February, the introduction of a modification in the Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo with this City Council to address as soon as possible the rehabilitation of the roof of the Municipal Swimming Pool of Aldea Blanca and the beautification of several roundabouts in the tourist area of this municipality.
The City Council, by technical prescription, faced the obligation to remove the entire polycarbonate cover of the Aldea Blanca swimming pool in mid-September due to the detachment of several sheets that, due to the effect of the wind, threatened to continue tearing off the rest of the roof, putting the safety of the residents and users of the facility at serious risk.
According to the proposal submitted to the plenary by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, the money needed to cover the pool and beautify the roundabouts, €284.000 for the first and €120.665 for the second, will be obtained by replacing the project to repave several streets for which the Council was asked for €404.665. The repair of these roads will be incorporated into the Council's own asphalt plan.
Low Emissions Zone
The plenary also unanimously agreed to the final approval of the new Municipal Ordinance regulating the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana after resolving the only two objections that were presented against it during the public exhibition period.
The regulatory document, drafted by the entity Desarrolllo Organization and Mobility SA, consists of 20 articles compiled in four chapters, two final provisions and three transitional provisions, as well as six annexes.
The ZBE that was decreed on September 26 is included within the perimeter formed by Avenida Alejandro del Castillo (north), the GC-500 highway or Avenida de la Unión Europea (south), the streets Plácido Domingo and Partera Leonorita (east) and Avenida de Tirajana (west), although none of these perimeter roads will be affected for free movement. The restricted hours for the area will be on weekdays from Monday to Friday, from eight in the morning to eight in the evening.
The choice of this area as the ZBE is due to the fact that it is the area with the largest population affected by pollution, as well as being one of the most densely populated areas and where one of the highest concentrations of traffic is recorded, some 6.000 vehicles per day at its three entrances.
El Tablero Shopping Center
In addition, at the same plenary session, the urban development agreement that the City Council and the Property Management entity El Siglo SL must sign shortly to enable the implementation of commercial use in the 4.582,36 square metres occupied by the warehouses on the basement floor of the El Tablero Shopping Centre also received final and unanimous approval.
The proposal, requested by the company on June 7, 2021, has had a favorable report from the municipal technical office since December 15 of that same year. The agreement was submitted to public exhibition and did not receive any objections. The promoter entity has already paid the City Council the amount of 322.527,12 euros corresponding to 15% of the urban development rights. It will now have to request the commercial license from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
Environmental evaluation
Two other matters in the area of urban planning that received unanimous plenary approval were the referrals to the Municipal Environmental Body of two files to initiate the simplified strategic environmental assessment procedure of, on the one hand, the minor modification of the General Urban Development Plan in relation to the change of use and subdivision of plot 16 of Salobre Golf that the commercial entity Golf El Salobre, promoter of the initiative, requested on October 9, 2023 and, on the other hand, of Plot 'D' of San Agustín, requested on September 23, 2024 by San Agustín Realty SL.
Regarding the El Salobre Golf file, the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, explained that it is aimed at allowing plot 16, of about 44.730 m² and initially intended for a hotel, to be converted into a residential area with about 20 m² of buildable land on plot 535-B and 16 m² on plot 2.500-A. And as for Plot 'D' of San Agustín, Marichal reported that its initial purpose for commercial facilities will also be extended to accommodation-tourism with complementary tourist facilities, "on two floors, with little impact, because it is close to the coast."
Two other matters approved unanimously by the corporate plenary session were a budget modification promoted by the Department of Sports for a total amount of 251.138,52 euros to pay for the remodelling of the athletics tracks at the Maspalomas Stadium (€224.513,27) and the renovation of the roof of the San Fernando skating rink (€26.625,25), and the declaration of Saturday 25 July, the feast of Santiago Apóstol, and Monday 24 August, the feast of San Bartolomé, as local festivals of the municipality for next year 2026.
motions
In the section on motions, the plenary session of the Corporation unanimously approved joining the institutional declaration promoted by the Canary Islands Federation of Municipalities (Fecam) on the occasion of the commemoration of International Women's Day on March 8, and also the institutional motion by which a street, roundabout or other public space in the municipality will be dedicated to Francisco Montesdeoca, 'Paco El Peluquero', who died last January. With this proposal of collective memory, the aim is to recognize his legacy and community roots in this municipality.
