According to information provided by AEMET technicians, a change in the north-northeast wind component could bring forward the forecast of rainfall in the westernmost islands.
The heaviest rainfall is expected in the western islands during the early hours of Sunday and in the central hours of Sunday and Monday, that is, approximately between 12:00 and 18:00. In the case of Gran Canaria, this rainfall is expected in the central hours of tomorrow, Sunday and Monday.
The Canary Islands Government, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, has activated the pre-alert situation due to the forecast of snowfall, rain and hail in the peaks of Gran Canaria. According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), snowfall is expected from 1.800 metres above sea level, especially affecting the highest areas of the island. In addition, intense showers and the presence of hail are not ruled out during the day on Sunday, March 2.

In contrast, the south of Gran Canaria will maintain more stable conditions throughout the weekend and the beginning of next week. Temperatures are expected to range between 14°C and 20°C, with partly cloudy skies and the possibility of light drizzle at times. For Monday, March 3, the forecast indicates a mostly clear day, although isolated showers during the afternoon are not ruled out. From Wednesday onwards, a general improvement in the weather is expected.
Given the weather conditions, authorities recommend taking extreme caution in summit areas, especially for those planning outdoor activities.
