At the ITB 2025 Berlin fair, tour operators expressed high satisfaction with the implementation of improvement commitments in the south of Gran Canaria, highlighting in particular the renovation of services and infrastructure. This professional event, one of the most important in the tourism sector worldwide, served as a platform for tour operators to share their impressions and assessments on the progress of Maspalomas, the economic capital of the Canary Islands. Among others, the works of the Landscaping project of the Palmeral Oasis Maspalomas have been positively valued, with a high tourist impact for the destination and which reaffirms and gives value to the natural environment of the municipality, assuming the conservation and rehabilitation of the area. Another project that has been valued for its progress is in urban drainage to prevent flooding due to river runoff in the area around the Maspalomas pond, the bicycle lane on the Paseo de Maspalomas and the improvement of access to the Maspalomas Lighthouse, which are added to a transformation project of more than five million for the development of shaded areas and the installation of photovoltaic energy.
The contributions made by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council since the end of 2023 amount to 7,7 million euros, in addition to 3 million from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the 20 million that are currently being executed or will be executed in the plan for these three years, that is, almost thirty million euros in some fourteen actions specified in the investment plan. Among the improvements carried out in the south of Gran Canaria, tour operators have highlighted the improvements made by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Consorcio de Rehabilitación del Sur de Gran Canaria and the presence of the private sector such as the renovation of hotels such as the Hotel Sholeo Maspalomas and the Hotel Servatur Puerto Azul has been well received by tour operators, who have positively valued the modernization of these infrastructures.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has launched the 2025 Asphalting Plan, which includes the repaving of streets and the improvement of accessibility and road safety. The improvement of tourist services has had a direct impact on tourist satisfaction. Tour operators have highlighted the importance of maintaining these standards to ensure tourist loyalty and attract new visitors. The high rating of the quality of the accommodation offer and the improvement of infrastructure have been key factors in this regard. During the fair, tour operators praised the efforts made by local authorities and investment funds in the modernisation of infrastructure and tourist services. They have highlighted the importance of maintaining high quality standards and the continuous training of professionals in the sector to offer a first-class tourist experience. The implementation of the Comprehensive System of Tourist Quality in Destinations (SICTED) has been a key factor in this process, allowing the quality of tourist services in Gran Canaria to be improved.
