The acting mayor, Alejandro Marichal, presided over the event and welcomed the recent declaration as a "Festival of Regional Tourist Interest".
Councillor Yilenia Vega presented a full programme of activities with the big novelty this year: "Carnival for the Family", which will accompany the children's parade.
That carnival you have, my dear, in Maspalomas... It will begin on March 18 with the announcing parade and will end on the 30th, as is tradition, with the burial of the sardine. This Friday the presentation of the event was held at the Gloria Palace San Agustín Hotel. There, the acting mayor, Alejandro Marichal; the councillor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega; the artistic director, Josué Quevedo and the set designer, Cristian Rodríguez, outlined the details of an event that will fill the streets of Playa del Inglés with joy and fun once again this year. The presentation event included performances by the group Mariachi Peleón and the Comparsa Baracoa.
Regional Tourist Interest
Alejandro Marichal began the event by asking for a round of applause for the entire team of the Department of Tourism, headed by Councillor Yilenia Vega, for the great work carried out to ensure that the Maspalomas International Carnival was recently declared a “Festival of Regional Tourist Interest”. The aforementioned Councillor then took the floor to detail the different carnival events and to comment that a week before the Drag Gala the procedure for purchasing tickets will be announced, correcting the small technical problems that arose last year. In the words of the Councillor “a more transparent and faster method will be chosen” that will avoid the long and uncomfortable queues that occurred in the past. Finally, she highlighted that the “Carnival in the Sun” will feature the most prominent DJs from the 40 Principales, with the party on the beach lasting until 20:00 p.m.
Maspalomas, cradle of talents and a greener future
The artistic director Josué Quevedo recalled that Maspalomas gave him, in 2020, the first opportunity to direct (when Alexis Moreno was councillor), and that currently both he and the Sonocom company do the same in the capital's carnival "that means that the Maspalomas International Carnival works very well and other carnivals want us in their municipalities". Regarding this edition, Quevedo promised "a different overture for each gala" and stressed that "Maspalomas should feel very proud of the quality of its dancers, acrobats and artists in general" who are in high demand at other events. Finally, he revealed that the Azúcar Moreno group will perform at the Gran Dama. Following the communicative tone of the new times, the rest of the carnival artists will be revealed as the days go by.

Cristian Rodríguez (Sonocom) stressed that “we have been here for many years and Carnival is part of the company’s DNA.” Lighting, sound and image will be in tune with this edition’s motto “Love, Mexican style.” The stage will have dimensions of 30m wide, 15m high and 13m deep. He also commented that “there will be almost one hundred lighting points” and that an “eco-friendly” mentality has already been implemented, which has led to a significant investment in new low-consumption LED lights that mean that “we are consuming less and less.”
A program full of events
The 51st edition of the Maspalomas International Carnival will present the candidates on March 19 at 18:30 p.m. The following day, Thursday 20, the Grand Dame's gala will be held at 20:30 p.m. Both events will take place at the Yumbo Shopping Center.
On Friday 21st, at 20:00 pm, the Children's Queen will be chosen. On Saturday 22nd, it will be the turn of the Carnival Queen at 21:00 pm. Both galas will be held at the Yumbo Shopping Centre and, after them, on both days at 23:00 pm, there will be a lot of people.
On Sunday 23rd, it will be the turn of the little ones in the house. The Children's Parade will begin at 12:00 at the Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas. It will go up the whole of Avenida de Tirajana until it reaches the Yumbo Shopping Centre, where the party will continue with the “Carnival for the family” which will start at 14:00.
The fun will not stop, as on Monday 24th there will be the Gala Sin Barreras and on Tuesday 25th the Choreographic Festival. Both events will start at 18:00 p.m. Meanwhile, on Wednesday 26th March, wow! The Dog Carnival arrives at 17:00 p.m. The three events mentioned above will be held on the main stage of the CC Yumbo.
Wow! On Thursday 27th one of the most anticipated moments arrives, the Drag Gala, at 21:00 p.m. and a new crowd at 23:00 p.m. On Friday 28th the sardine is rescued in Charca de Maspalomas at 12:00 p.m. and we move to the Playa del Inglés Annex where at 14:30 p.m. good music will be the protagonist in the already consolidated “Carnival in the Sun”. That same night, at 21:00 p.m., there will be the Tourist Gala and, when it ends, the 4th crowd of the Carnival will arrive. The time? You already know it… at 23:00 p.m.
We start the last two days of festivities in style with the celebration of the Grand Parade that starts at 17:00 p.m. from the Hotel Parque Tropical and ends, already with nostalgia for all the good times experienced, on March 30 with the Burial of the Sardine that leaves from the Yumbo Shopping Center at 19:00 p.m. and will conclude with a concert in the Playa del Inglés Annex at 21:00 p.m. So, the Maspalomas International Carnival 2025 is pretty cool!
