The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has decided to definitively close the case against Miguel Ángel Ramírez, businessman and president of the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, related to alleged fraud against Social Security by the companies Sinergias de Vigilancia y Seguridad and Novosegur. This ruling represents a new judicial victory for Ramírez, concluding that no crime has been identified in the operations of these companies.
This ruling also reverses the previous decision of the Investigating Court number 8 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which had concluded the investigation and prepared the case for trial. However, the Court did not consider it necessary to determine whether Ramírez was really the undercover administrator of the two companies, as alleged by the Economic Crimes Prosecutor's Office and which the businessman himself always denied.
The court argued that after analysing the disputes between Sinergias and Novosegur with the Social Security regarding their contributions, no evidence of criminal activity was found. Therefore, it proceeded to file the case without needing to delve into the role of Ramírez and the other defendants in these security companies.
This outcome puts an end to a process in which Miguel Ángel Ramírez was facing a request for six years in prison for alleged crimes related to fraud in Social Security contributions. The resolution reaffirms his position and alleviates his legal situation in a case that has generated great public attention. Before that, he had to deposit 5 million euros as bail for preventive purposes.
