An intense police mobilization has been deployed in El Salobre, in the Gran Canaria municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, to investigate the alleged kidnapping of a woman and her son from their family home, according to Canarias7.
This incident has generated a strong social and media impact, disrupting the usual tranquility of this exclusive residential area and damaging the island's image as a safe tourist destination. The presence of hitmen, who allegedly carried out this double kidnapping in what is suspected to be a case of extortion, represents a worrying increase in violence linked to organized crime.
According to initial investigations, the kidnapping was allegedly carried out by foreign hitmen hired by third parties, a common practice in disputes between drug trafficking clans.
The robbery took place at a luxurious home next to the El Salobre golf course, where the attackers broke in and allegedly took the woman and her son by force.
Since early Thursday afternoon, the house has been cordoned off and under police guard.
Investigators are considering the main hypothesis that this kidnapping is related to the victim's husband's business. However, the case is being handled with the utmost secrecy, as the priority is to ensure the safety of the kidnapped victims and advance the investigation without putting their lives at risk.
