Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez chaired the event's main security panel this Friday, where strict controls will be implemented to prevent bottle parties.
The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, chaired the general meeting of the main security committee for the 2025 Maspalomas International Carnival on Friday, which will be held with the theme "Mexican Love" from March 18 to 30.
Along with the mayor, the Local Police Commissioner, Isidro Armas, participated as those responsible for the general operation; Pablo Fernández, Chief Commissioner of the National Police in Maspalomas; Yilenia Vega, Councilor for Tourism, Festivities, and Events for this municipality; José Carlos Álamo, Councilor for Security and Emergencies; and César García, representative of the company that drafted the security plan.
The security committee meeting took place at the Maspalomas Cultural Center for just over an hour. It was attended by officials and representatives from all the municipality's security and emergency teams that will oversee the International Carnival, as well as a delegation from the tourism industry.
The Carnival security operation will include a significant deployment of over 600 police officers throughout the twelve days of official events. The local police force will be reinforced by officers from the National Police Station and the Central Police Headquarters, which will even provide a dedicated family and women's unit for the event, according to Commissioner Pablo Fernández.
Among the measures that will be implemented to ensure maximum Carnival security are strict glass controls that will be implemented in transit areas and access to the most crowded areas to prevent bottle parties.
Teamwork
The Councilor for Security, José Carlos Álamo, who emphasized the importance of teamwork for the success of Carnival security, explained that the event's Hospitalito will be located, as it was for the 2024 edition, on Grecia Street, while the advanced command post, where all security operations and decisions will be centralized, will be located at the headquarters of the Local Police Station in Campo Internacional. In this regard, he informed those present that the Municipal Emergency Plan will be activated on the day the Carnival begins "with the aim of guaranteeing and streamlining all types of decision-making."
The security plan provided to all representatives and heads of security forces details the risk levels and street closures, along with the respective schedules for each of the scheduled activities. Special emphasis is placed on the five galas and, above all, the grand parade and mass gathering on Saturday the 29th, "because it requires the most attention due to its higher risk level," stated the plan's drafter.
Before concluding the meeting and thanking everyone for their close collaboration in developing the "most important event held in this municipality, and one of the most important on the island of Gran Canaria," Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez asked those attending the meeting to be aware of the schedule change that will occur in the early hours of March 29-30. "We'll have one less person that night, and the technical and control teams will have to be vigilant about ensuring all venues close at the appropriate time, and that will force us to make decisions in this regard. The coming days will be very busy, and I ask that we do so with complete satisfaction because this is about achieving a goal," he stated.
