The seized devices did not comply with European Union safety regulations.

The sale of these items can be harmful to the population, with results such as wiring fires and battery explosions.

The Gran Canaria Civil Guard, within the European framework for combating product fraud and ensuring consumer safety, has seized more than 5.700 electronic devices from a wholesale establishment in the municipality of Telde for lacking the requirements established by European Union safety regulations. Agents from the Fiscal and Border Guards of Vecindario and Santa María de Guía inspected a wholesale warehouse in Telde. There, they discovered the sale of electronic devices imported from outside the European Union that did not meet the safety requirements for sale in the European market.

These products lacked the CE marking, which certifies compliance with EU safety, health, and environmental protection standards. The absence of this certification indicates that the devices have not passed the necessary conformity assessments and could pose a risk to consumers, causing fires in the appliance's wiring, battery explosions, electrical system failures, and so on, given their poor quality.

A total of 5.713 items were seized, with a combined value of around €177.000. These items were placed at the disposal of the Canary Islands Government's Directorate General for Trade and Consumer Affairs. The agents filed a complaint for non-compliance with the European Product Safety Regulation and labeling regulations.

The general public is reminded that all electronic devices must contain the following information: manufacturer or importer in the European Union, labeling in at least Spanish and CE marking, paying special attention to the CE marking, which is used by manufacturers to instill confidence in consumers by indicating that the product has undergone rigorous testing, declaring that the products are safe and comply with European regulations.
