The Gran Canaria Island Council improves the stability of the GC-550 highway with an innovative anchoring technique in the retaining walls, ensuring safety and preventing collapses on the road.

Reinforcement work on the GC-550 highway, which connects Santa Lucía de Tirajana with Temisas, is progressing with an innovative stabilization technique using steel anchors. The project, led by the Gran Canaria Island Council, incorporates 56 bolts measuring over 11 meters that penetrate the structure to consolidate the retaining walls and prevent future subsidence or cracks. With a budget of €800.486, this project guarantees road safety without the need for demolitions or expropriations.

The work, part of an infrastructure conservation plan, is being carried out by the Aceinsa Movilidad y Cimentaciones y Arrendamientos joint venture, with an expected completion date of June. The project includes placing a layer of shotcrete over the existing walls, installing steel anchors, and improving the waterproofing to prevent leaks that could weaken the structure.

Once the structural reinforcement is complete, the road surface will be fully rehabilitated, allowing traffic to be restored safely. "This intervention is essential to prevent a possible collapse and ensure the connection between Santa Lucía and Temisas," said the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García. For his part, the vice president of the City Council, Augusto Hidalgo, emphasized that this technique minimizes the environmental impact and ensures the stability of the road for decades.
