A four-story residential building located on Avenida de Canarias, near Tasca Mejías, in the Doctoral neighborhood, was evacuated on the morning of Saturday, March 15, due to an imminent risk of collapse.
According to sources from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, 20 families have been evacuated due to serious foundation problems detected in the building's basement. The emergency has also forced the evacuation of two adjacent buildings and the closure of several nearby commercial establishments, including a hair salon and a cafe.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, establishing a security perimeter around the affected building. Municipal technicians from the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council are already assessing the structural damage, while the Local Police have closed off access to the area to ensure the safety of residents.
Some reports suggest that work on the building may have seriously damaged one of the main pillars, worsening the situation.
