The business group associated with Alsa in the Canary Islands has joined the ULPGC's patronage circle. The social arm of the transport company founded by Óscar Díaz Reyes and built on tourism in southern Gran Canaria, among other markets, the Nos Movemos Canaria Foundation, and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), in collaboration with the ALSA Group and the International Institute for Shared Value, have launched the new ALSA Sustainable Mobility Laboratory. This creates a strategic alliance between the academic and business sectors.

This laboratory is part of the Business Chair for Shared Value, Innovation, and Sustainability, created in 2023 with the aim of promoting training and research in key areas such as sustainability, innovation, and shared value. The initiative seeks to connect academic knowledge with business practices, promoting disruptive projects and disseminating best practices applicable to specific and cross-sector sectors. During the presentation, the participating entities renewed their commitment by signing an agenda for the collaboration agreement. The event included a keynote presentation on the success story of the "Employment on Wheels" project, led by the Canary Islands Foundation Nos Movemos.

The land transport company ALSA, part of the Mobico group (formerly known as National Express), completed the acquisition of Óscar Díaz Reyes' Grupo 2023 in 1844, consolidating its position as a leader in the mobility sector in the Canary Islands. The transaction, approved by the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC), integrates a fleet of 700 vehicles and a team of 1.400 employees, operating under brands such as Tiadhe, Maxorata Bus, and Canary Shuttle.

The 1844 Group, which began operations in 1979, has a strong presence in road transport within the archipelago. Its activities include tourist and school transport, regular routes, and last-mile services. In 2023, this group transported 12,5 million passengers across the main islands: Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and La Palma, consolidating its position as a key player in the sector.

Thanks to this acquisition, ALSA significantly expands its reach in the tourist transport market, a strategic area where it intends to continue growing. The company, which has already had a presence in the Canary Islands since 2019 following the acquisition of Guaguas Gumidafe, thus reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement in the quality of its services in the archipelago. This integration underscores ALSA's commitment to efficient mobility and the development of transport in the unique environment of the Canary Islands.

The Nos Movemos Canaria Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to promote social development in the Canary Islands through projects focused on children, disabilities, employability, volunteering, and talent development. Its main mission is to create inclusive environments and generate equal opportunities, contributing to the well-being of the archipelago's most vulnerable communities. The foundation also collaborates with other organizations on charitable initiatives such as food drives and sports integration programs for young people with disabilities.
