MASPALOMAS24H Thursday, March 20, 2025

The winner represented the El Tablero Senior Center with a design by Masbe Creaciones and her fantasy "I am the Gallera"

The musical duo Azúcar Moreno exuded art and charm on the stage of CC Yumbo and made everyone in attendance dance with their greatest hits.

The Gala of the Grand Dame of the 2025 Maspalomas International Carnival, a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands, took place on a pleasant evening with favorable weather, and the six candidates connected with the audience, displaying their great vitality. It's worth noting that, for the first time in the history of the Carnival, the candidates had the opportunity to wear wheels in their costumes.

The event, hosted by Wendy Fuentes and Ibán Padrón, began with a magnificent performance by the Aragüimé troupe. Then, as established by the draw the day before, it was Margarita Araña's turn, from the El Pajar Senior Center, with a design by Miguel Cruz and the fantasy "Ándale!, ¡Ándale! que llega a México." The audience was already in raptures when the second of the candidates appeared, Antonia María Guedes, representing the Castillo del Romeral Senior Center, with a design by Nauzet Ortega and her fantasy "Mar Azul." The joy continued with Enriqueta Soto, representing the San Fernando de Maspalomas Senior Center, with her fantasy "Toda una vida," designed by Aythami Rodríguez Tavío.

The gala reached its midpoint with a magnificent performance by Yamilei Cruz and Mariachi Peleón, who brought love to the Mexican artist with the hit "Me gustas mucho" by the unforgettable Rocío Dúrcal, which the entire audience sang in chorus. Afterwards, it was the turn of the three remaining candidates. They were: in fourth place, María Isabel Vega with her fantasy "Entra en el Carnaval" (Enter the Carnival), designed by Juan Francisco Padrón, representing the Cercados de Espino Senior Citizens Center; in fifth place, Carmen Santana with her fantasy "Latidos de Maguey" (Beats of Maguey), designed by Isidro Javier Pérez and Daniel Rivero, representing the Tunte Senior Citizens Center; and finally, Juana Teresa Rivero, with a design by Masbe Creaciones and her fantasy "Yo soy la Gallera" (I am the Gallera), representing the El Tablero Senior Citizens Center. At this point, given the high level of competition, it was difficult to determine a winner, a task that fell to the jury, who marched in to deliberate their decision.

Once the important decision was made, Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez took the stage with the outgoing Queen, Mari Carmen Rodríguez Castro, and crowned the winner. Meanwhile, First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal and Tourism Councilor Yilenia Vega crowned the other award-winning candidates: Antonia María Guedes (5th Lady), María Isabel Vega (4th Lady), Margarita Araña (3rd Lady), Enriqueta Soto (2nd Lady), and Carmen Santana (1st Lady).

This is how the first of the great galas of this Carnival, which promises to bring lots of excitement and fun over the next 10 days, came to a close. So, cheer up, as Azúcar Moreno once said: "You only live once..."
