The SPAR Gran Canaria supermarket chain reaffirms its commitment to sustainability for the sixth consecutive year by joining the global Earth Hour initiative. This Saturday, March 22, the supermarket chain will partially turn off its lights to spread the message of climate action and its commitment to sustainability among employees, customers, and society at large.
Between 20:30 p.m. and 21:30 p.m., the lights will be turned off in some of the sales areas of SPAR Gran Canaria stores, along with all their porches and windows, as well as the exterior LED signs located at the logistics centers in El Goro and Mercalaspalmas.
This initiative adds to the measures already promoted by the Gran Canaria supermarket chain in its commitment to sustainability, such as the installation of renewable energy, energy efficiency, food waste reduction, the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, and recycling.
SPAR Gran Canaria actively contributes to the island's reforestation, thus collaborating in the protection of the natural environment and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda.
In addition, as a new feature this year, an initiative has been launched inviting the firm's staff to participate in a photography contest, aimed at promoting respect for nature and environmental awareness. The three best entries will receive a special prize next Friday, March 21, and will be exhibited through official channels.
