A week marked by wind and adverse temperatures in southern Gran Canaria.

The Canary Islands government maintains the pre-alert status for winds ahead of a week of adverse weather conditions. Southern Gran Canaria will experience strong gusts of trade winds and abnormal temperatures for this time of year.

The Canary Islands Government's General Directorate of Emergencies has confirmed the continuation of the wind pre-alert status for the next few days, due to the persistence of a strong trade wind flow that will particularly affect the south of Gran Canaria. This measure is being maintained in coordination with the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET Canarias) and in accordance with the Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Weather Events (PEFMA).

Wind gusts from the northeast are expected, reaching speeds of up to 70 and even 90 km/h in exposed areas such as the mid-mountain ranges and peaks of the southeast, affecting municipalities such as Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Ingenio, Agüimes, and Tejeda. These conditions could make traffic difficult, especially in open and mountainous areas.

In addition to the wind, the AEMET (Meteorological Agency of the Canary Islands) has warned of a rise in temperatures in southern Gran Canaria, with highs that could reach between 27 and 30 degrees in coastal areas such as Maspalomas and above-average temperatures in the midlands. Lows will also remain high, ranging between 18 and 20 degrees at night.

Although significant rain is not expected, some cloudy periods due to moisture carryover in summit areas are possible. The weather will remain dry and windy, especially between Sunday, March 23rd and Tuesday, March 25th, when the greatest impact of the phenomenon is expected.

The Canary Islands Government recommends extreme caution during outdoor activities, securing objects that could be blown away by the wind, and following the instructions of Civil Protection services. The evolution of this situation will be updated according to AEMET warnings and meteorological monitoring systems.
