The "Canary Green" project finds in Mogán and Maspalomas two of its main allies in transforming tourism in the Canary Islands toward a more sustainable and digitalized model for markets like the UK. These municipalities are implementing innovative solutions that not only preserve their natural environment but also improve the experience of residents and visitors. Carmen Gloria Rodríguez Falcón, Director of Public Administrations at Telefónica in the Canary Islands, explains that this model is not only adaptable to each region but also promises to generate wealth and preserve the natural environment. With this vision, "Canary Green" is consolidating its position as a benchmark for sustainability and innovation in the Spanish tourism landscape.

At the heart of this innovative initiative is the Canary Green App, a multifunctional tool designed to revolutionize sustainable tourism. The app offers five essential features that not only promote respect for the environment but also significantly improve the user experience. Its features include environmental alerts, which allow authorities to be quickly informed of any incidents affecting the environment, and interactive maps, which facilitate access to sustainable routes and points of ecological interest in the destination.

The app also features the Good Market platform, which connects users with local businesses certified for their commitment to sustainability, encouraging responsible consumption. Other notable features include the Green Backpack, a solution that calculates the carbon footprint generated during a visit and offers alternatives to offset it, and Green Coins, an innovative loyalty system that rewards travelers for sustainable practices, redeeming them for unique experiences and local products, thus consolidating a conscious and enriching tourism model.

In Mogán, measures such as the installation of LED lighting in key areas have been adopted, significantly reducing CO2 emissions and energy costs. Furthermore, the municipality is leading ravine cleanup and reforestation initiatives, funded by the Green Forest Fund, consolidating its position as a leader in environmental conservation. Meanwhile, Maspalomas, the economic capital of the Canary Islands, has implemented the Canary Green App to promote responsible practices among tourists. This tool includes features such as interactive maps with sustainable routes and a reward system, Green Coins, which incentivize environmentally friendly tourism. Furthermore, Maspalomas is working on the efficient management of its beaches and natural spaces, using technology to monitor capacity and ensure the sustainability of its resources.

Both municipalities are part of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC), which is promoting this ambitious project in collaboration with Telefónica Empresas. Thanks to the Tourism Intelligence System (SIT), Mogán and Maspalomas can access key data on tourist concentration and reservations, enabling more efficient management tailored to local needs.
With these initiatives, Mogán and Maspalomas not only strengthen their position as top-tier tourist destinations, but also demonstrate that it is possible to combine economic development with sustainability. This innovative approach not only benefits visitors but also improves the quality of life for residents, paving the way for a greener and more balanced future in the Canary Islands.
