The Gala Without Barriers fills the 2025 Maspalomas International Carnival with color, rhythm, and inclusion.

MASPALOMAS24H Monday, March 24, 2025

Seven occupational centers on the island of Gran Canaria and the Asdownsur Association presented their carnival proposals on the stage of the Yumbo Shopping Center.

The party in Maspalomas continues unabated. This Monday afternoon, the Gala Sin Barreras (Without Barriers Gala) took place, hosted by journalist Paula Morales. The event featured various performances that have been lovingly and carefully prepared for weeks by the participating occupational centers. The gala was opened by the murga group "Los Star," who perfectly combined the joy and social criticism typical of the murga world.

Next up was the Down Syndrome Association "Asdownsur," with its ten-member dance group, founded in 2015 and led by their teacher, Capi. Today they performed under the title "Hip-Hop at Carnival." It's worth noting that this dance group has already performed on various islands and will soon be performing in Madrid for a competition. They rehearse every Monday, and according to one of the mothers, "They love this gala. We've been participating for five or six years now. In fact, our sponsor is Roberto Herrera."

After the magnificent dance, it was the turn of the Arucas Occupational Center to perform the dance "Los Piratas Rumberos" (The Rumbero Pirates). At the end, they surprised one of their teachers by singing happy birthday to her. From the Ingenio Occupational Center, Rayco Ojeda Ojeda arrived, with great skill, giving a solo performance with the dance "La Cosa está que Arde" (The Thing is on Fire), which included a reference to Paco el de Tirajana and his famous "yaaaas, the thing is on fire." From the same center, the couple Juan Aridane and Roberto Vega followed with the dance "Son Amores, Amores que matan..." (It's Love, Love that Kills...), and finally, the group performance with the dance "Chacho! We're in Carnival."

By now the audience was fully committed to the cause and couldn't stop clapping and dancing. The good vibes filled the Yumbo CC in Playa del Inglés when the Valleseco Occupational Centre brought us their group performance of the fantasy "The Olympic Battle". Later, the Occupational Centre of the neighbouring municipality of Mogán did the same with the fantasy "5000 Years Before Elvis", which filled the stage with Egyptian pharaohs.

The beautiful Maspalomas sunset witnessed the sixth performance, by the ENVERA Occupational Center in Carrizal with the fantasy "The ENVERA Carnival People Arrived to Form the Gozadera." Taking advantage of the high spirits, the Valleseco Occupational Center participated again, this time with a couple and the fantasy: "Chacha! Not even Zeus commands me." The Occupational Center in San Bartolomé de Tijuana, sorry, I meant Tirajana, closed the performance period with the fantasy: "Hey! Sweetie, sing and don't cry..." And as if all the excitement of Monday afternoon weren't enough, there was also a performance by the Acuarela Group and the presentation of awards to all participants by the members of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana local council present and the mayor of the Valleseco municipality himself.

The party continues tomorrow, with the Choreographic Festival at 18:00 p.m. It's also worth noting that some galas, like today's and tomorrow's, can be watched live or on demand on the "Canarias Media Film" YouTube channel. We're reaching the halfway point of the southern carnival, but there's still plenty to celebrate, dude!
