Carnival in its essence is this: music, rhythm, dance, and color. Furthermore, as Yilenia Vega, Councilor for Tourism, Events, and Celebrations, rightly comments, "this gala serves to showcase all the talent we have in the municipality. We want to continue promoting the artistic side of Carnival because we also know it's a great joy for children." In Maspalomas, the carnival celebrations are celebrating their fifty-first anniversary, and this is evident, among other things, in the remarkable talent pool of dancers, acrobats, and artists the town boasts in relation to its population. All of this was fully realized on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 25, 2025, on the stage of the Yumbo Shopping Center. There, the audience was able to enjoy a total of 25 performances, where dance and music were the undisputed stars.
The event was hosted by journalist and broadcaster Adolfo Rodríguez, who exuded charisma on stage and gave way to the first performance by Dunia Morales' ballet, "Un Poco Loco." During the gala, the aforementioned ballet performed other pieces such as "Confident" and "Mexico," the latter closing the gala. Emily Domínguez's Dance Academy performed "Bang Bang," followed by "What You Came For," "Pound the Alarm," and "Little Party." Domínguez herself commented, "We are very excited because we are showcasing the work developed over the past few months, and all the family members can see it." There was also a special performance by the Maspalomas Artistic Skating Club, with their performances "Down" and "Zumba."
The Carmen Cabrera Dance School presented the shows "Dolls," "Vogue," and "Up the Music." Carmen Cabrera herself commented that "we have been participating in the Maspalomas International Carnival for 18 years, since the first children's galas, and in recent years we have been participating in the Choreographic Festival. We have 71 students from four school groups, ranging in age from 6 to 13." She also emphasized that, at the competitive level, "last year we achieved 78 achievements."
Nahia Dance with "Mini Atletas," "Los Maharajád del Ritmo," "NahiaDanceTeam Coranzoncito," "Heels Unholy," "NahiaDanceTeam Labachata," and "Rueda Ser Feliz." Nerecumbé, led by Nerea Alconada, performed "Que Les Den Candela," and the Famara Association of Aldea Blanca performed "La Reina." The acrobatics were performed by "Los Kids de Levi & Estrella," who showcased their skills, surprising the audience.
The 2025 Maspalomas International Carnival, a Festival of Tourist Interest in the Canary Islands, continues tomorrow with the dog festival at 17:00 p.m. at the Yumbo Shopping Center. On Thursday, it's the Drag Queens' turn. The party's still going on until Sunday... Don't miss it!
