The south of Gran Canaria welcomes long evenings with daylight saving time.

Early this Sunday, March 30th, clocks in the Canary Islands will move forward one hour, marking the start of daylight saving time. This measure encourages us to make the most of the day, enjoy the outdoors, and leave behind the short winter evenings.

At 01:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, clocks in the Canary Islands will be moved forward one hour to 02:00 a.m., thus welcoming Daylight Saving Time. This change, which occurs twice a year throughout the European Union, marks the beginning of a period in which sunlight extends beyond the working day, especially appreciated by those who want to enjoy the evenings after work.

Daylight saving time has been the most anticipated time for most citizens for years, especially in places like the Archipelago, where the climate and surroundings invite people to take advantage of every ray of sunshine. The arrival of this new time also represents an improvement in the quality of life for many people, after months of days that ended with early sunsets, cold nights, and the feeling that the day is shortening too quickly.

Although the time change has been debated in various European forums, it remains a popular argument, driven by energy savings, a measure promoted since 1974 following the oil crisis. That year, several countries, including Spain, decided to adopt this system to optimize the use of natural light and reduce electricity consumption. To this day, although its energy benefits are disputed, many people continue to celebrate this adjustment simply for the sake of more hours of daylight to enjoy.
