Drag Queen Elektra shines brightly and conquers the Maspalomas International Carnival Drag Gala 2025

MASPALOMAS24H Friday, March 28, 2025

The winner, Iván Sánchez Pérez, wore the costume "The clown doesn't lie when he says... I'm the winner!" designed by Ceballo Ortega and Dito Martín, representing Mow Hotels.

The clown didn't lie. Drag Elektra was the winner of a vibrant evening thanks to his magnificent performance, in which he appeared in character as Pennywise, the famous dancing clown from the Stephen King universe. The gala, which lasted more than two hours, was superbly hosted by Roberto Herrera and Yanely Hernández, who displayed great chemistry on stage and connected with the audience from the very first moment.

The opening performance once again demonstrated the ingenuity and creativity of Artistic Director Josué Quevedo, who, among other things, showcased great hits such as Thalia's "Amar sin ser amada" and Selena's "Como la flor" with magnificent costumes. After the opening performance, Yanely Hernández herself, making her debut on the Maspalomas stage, declared that the Gala was going to be amazing, and she was right.

Drag Shirah broke the ice, representing the Illustrious City Council of La Vega de San Mateo with a design by Israel Arbelo, Carla Domínguez and Aran Perdomo and the fantasy: "Reborn, I am not a monster, I am his creation" in allusion to Medusa. The audience was already completely absorbed when the first place winner, Drag Gio, came in second place, representing Clínika Beach, Farándula and Winter Pride Maspalomas, with a design by High Heels Performance and the fantasy: "If you're going to do it, make it epic!" Following him was Drag La Tacones with her fantasy "Honor and Glory" by Masbe Creaciones and representing Carrozas José Halcón.

In fourth place was Drag Ígnea, with the fantasy "Magia" by Melanie Suárez Armas, representing Ferretería Encinoso and Miss Grand Las Palmas. In fifth place was Drag Hefesto with "Uf, ¡qué mal genio, guapa!" by Néstor Santana, representing Ángel Díaz Tattoo. Then it was Drag Lemnos' turn with his fantasy: "Detras de un mato siempre hay un gato, miamur" by Nelson Rodríguez and Michael Rodríguez, representing S3FIT Las Rehoyas.

We reached the midpoint of the gala with the magnificent Sonia and Selena, who roused the thousands of people packed into the Yumbo Shopping Center in Playa del Inglés with their smash hit "Yo quiero bailar." We then entered the second group of participants, Drag Eyzet with "Chacha! Tantas flechas del amor y yo soltera, maricón" by Studio Hidalgo, representing Food Trucks & Drinks and 3Noventa.

Drag Liak, the runner-up, took eighth place with "Woman, Shall We Play?" by Josep López and Studio Hidalgo, representing Clínicas Imbernon Murcia and Discoteca Mamaluna. He was followed by Drag Acrux with "The Hidden Depth of a Sweet Angel Through the Unjust Prejudices of a Sad Hell" by Neftalí Betancor, representing INK Canarias Tattoo & Quiromasaje, Jacob Peluquero, and Mixturas Music.

As established by last Wednesday's draw, the winner, Drag Elektra, came in tenth place with "The clown doesn't lie when he says... I'm the winner!" by Antonio Ceballo and Dito Martín, representing Mow Hotels. The twelfth place went to Kalik with his fantasy: "Life is what happens while you watch the screen" by Elian Martín, Carolina Moreno, and Daniel Guzmán, representing the City Council of the Royal City of Gáldar. His impressive performance made him third.

The fourth-place finisher, Drag Sequins, closed out the competition with "Oh! You're like summer, hot? No, without classes..." by Josep López and Néstor Santana, representing the Arucas City Council and Vervia Asesores. The level of performance shown by all the drag queens was very high, and the jury's decision was very difficult. The tireless Abraham Mateo eased the tension surrounding the verdict, winning over the audience with his rhythm, especially his bachata "Clavaíto," which he performed, in part, with a Canarian flag behind him.

Before the jury's verdict was announced, Drag Tamito bid farewell to his reign with a grand performance on stage. Afterward, it was Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez's turn, Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal, and Councilor for Tourism, Events, and Celebrations Yilenia Vega presented awards to the top four finishers and the winner, Drag Elektra. The title of her performance, "The Clown Doesn't Lie When He Says... I Am the Winner!" became premonitory, and at the end of the gala, Elektra was bathed in the crowds (tourists and residents) who gathered at the foot of the stage to immortalize the moment.
