April arrives in the Canary Islands with the saying 'April brings a thousand showers': Will the rains come true in southern Gran Canaria?

The Government has updated the situation, moving to a pre-alert for rain in the four western islands and Gran Canaria, as well as municipalities in the west and south of Gran Canaria (Gáldar, Agaete, Artenara, La Aldea, Tejeda, Mogán, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana).

The popular Spanish saying "In April, a thousand waters" suggests that this month is traditionally rainy in many regions, but in the south of Gran Canaria, known for its stable climate, rainfall is usually scarce.

Historically, this saying has roots in Spanish oral tradition, reflecting the observation of abundant rainfall during spring on the peninsula. However, in the southern part of Gran Canaria, where the climate is generally drier, April is characterized by sunny days and mild temperatures.

For the first week of April 2025, the weather forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and pleasant temperatures. On Tuesday, April 1, a high of 22°C and a low of 14°C are expected, while on Wednesday, April 2, light morning showers are possible, with highs of 20°C and lows of 14°C. These conditions reflect the usual pattern for the month in this area of the island.

Although the saying suggests abundant rain in April, southern Gran Canaria tends to maintain a stable and sunny climate. Even so, it is recommended to follow weather updates for possible changes. For residents and tourists, April continues to be an ideal month to enjoy the beaches and outdoor activities the island has to offer.
