Southern Gran Canaria: a key pillar in the TUI Group's digital strategy

The south of Gran Canaria remains an essential destination for the TUI Group, one of the world's tourism giants. During the recent Capital Markets Day, TUI presented a detailed analysis of its business, highlighting its intention to double the profitability of its tour operator and airline division in the medium term. This ambitious goal underscores the importance of key markets such as Germany and the United Kingdom, which present significant differences in customer distribution and behavior.

With operations in 14 source markets and more than 20 million customers last year, 6,1 million of whom chose destinations like Gran Canaria, TUI reaffirms its commitment to the region. However, in southern Gran Canaria, where tourism is the economic engine, questions arise about how these global strategies impact the local level. Are the needs of the destinations that most contribute to the group's success being prioritized?

Southern Gran Canaria is not only a tourist destination, but also a strategic partner that adds value to TUI's business model. The region, with its hotel capacity and leisure offerings, constantly adapts to the demands of source markets. However, the differences in distribution between Germany and the United Kingdom, TUI's main markets, pose unique challenges. While the German market tends to prefer more traditional package tours, the British market favors more flexible and personalized options.

In this context, southern Gran Canaria must position itself as a destination that not only meets tourists' expectations but also influences TUI's strategic decisions. Collaboration between the group and local stakeholders will be key to ensuring the region remains a competitive and sustainable destination.

With TUI's promise to transform its operating model and adapt to new market trends, southern Gran Canaria has the opportunity to consolidate its position as an essential destination in the group's global strategy. But to achieve this, it will be essential that the decisions made in TUI's offices reflect the needs and aspirations of those who make southern Gran Canaria a unique place.
