Gran Canaria consolidates its winter season with a "historic" February

The island of Gran Canaria welcomed 479.083 tourists in February 2025, according to data published by Frontur, representing a 4,67% increase compared to the same month last year and reinforcing the positive indicators for the winter season. This record marks the third highest volume of tourist arrivals and the best February in this regard in the tourist destination's history. 

 

The Tourism Minister of the Gran Canaria Island Council described these results as "historic" and indicated that, pending receipt of March data, they will allow us to close the high season with a new record in revenue. "We see a continuation of the trend from the previous year, with an increase in revenue exceeding that of customer arrivals, although tourist arrivals have slowed slightly. Last year we closed with an 8% and 10,6% increase in revenue. Now, with the first two months combined, we are at a positive 3,72%. We expect higher spending figures for the first quarter, which is where our efforts are focused, and we are achieving very good results," the Minister stated. "In the end, we are in a situation with high bed occupancy, hovering around 90% per room, and the room for growth should come through an increase in spending per tourist per trip. In this sense, the forecasts are good."

 

 

 

Gran Canaria has accumulated 939.368 tourist visitors this year. In January and February 2024, 905.682 tourists arrived, representing a 3,72% increase. The nationalities leading the list in the 2025 cumulative arrivals are: Nordic, with 249.432 tourists; German, with 193.758 arrivals; and British, with 157.269. The February record highlights the increase in German visitors compared to the same month last year, with an increase of 18,45%. The increase in domestic tourists is 3,74%. 

 

The analysis of customer behavior highlights a 2,77 percentage point decrease in the use of package tours compared to February 2024, with 50,27% of tourists purchasing them. The previous year, this figure was 53,04%. The average stay of all tourists in February was 7,53 days, and 7,8 days in 2025.
