Canary Islands Tourism and Airbnb have announced a strategic agreement to combat non-compliant tourist rentals in the south of Gran Canaria and the rest of the islands. This agreement, developed by the Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands Government, Jéssica de León, and the General Manager of Airbnb Marketing Services, Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, seeks to identify and remove unfair listings from the platform.
In addition, an innovative tool will be implemented to facilitate compliance with the registration requirements established by the new European regulations. This development aims to ensure greater transparency and regulation in the tourist rental market.
Airbnb notifies various authorities around the world to ensure that listings published on its platform comply with local regulations. In Europe, cities such as Barcelona and Ibiza have established agreements with the company to detect and remove tourist accommodation listings that do not comply with current regulations. Additionally, Airbnb has developed tools such as the City Portal, which allows municipal authorities to monitor accommodation activity and strengthen transparency.
In Asia, Airbnb has promoted partnerships to encourage local and rural tourism. For example, in South Korea, it collaborates with the Hadong-gun government to attract visitors to less-explored rural areas. In China, the platform has partnered with the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism to boost domestic tourism, strengthening local communities and preserving cultural traditions.
These collaborations reflect a global model of adaptation to local regulations and a commitment to responsible tourism.
