A SUC helicopter evacuates a cyclist after he fainted on the Fataga highway.

A 55-year-old man was evacuated by medical helicopter to the Gran Canaria University Hospital after fainting while riding his bicycle on the GC-60 highway in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The call was received by CECOES 1-1-2 at 15:15 p.m.

 

The incident occurred this Friday, April 4, 2025, on the GC-60 road toward the town of Fataga, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. At 15:15 p.m., the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Safety Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 received an alert reporting a cyclist who had fainted on the road, indicating that he needed urgent medical assistance.

 

A 55-year-old man suffered a fainting spell and was treated on-site by a primary care team and by personnel from a basic life support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC). After stabilizing the patient and verifying his initial recovery, he was transported by ambulance to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana football field, where the SUC medical helicopter had landed.

 

From there, the helicopter evacuated the victim to the Gran Canaria University Hospital, where he was admitted in a recovered state after the incident.

Several emergency resources activated by CECOES 1-1-2 participated in the operation, including a basic life support ambulance, a medicalized ambulance, and a medicalized helicopter from the SUC (Uninstitutional Emergency Unit), as well as the doctor and nurse from the Tunte health center. Local police, Civil Protection, and Civil Guard personnel also collaborated.
