Maspalomas reveals neglect in waste management on the eve of Holy Week

The PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana warns of the worrying state of neglect the municipality is suffering due to ineffective waste management in the middle of the high season, a situation that tarnishes the tourist image of the destination just before Easter.

The municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is once again facing a serious urban cleanliness problem. The streets, especially in tourist areas like Maspalomas, are plagued by overflowing trash bins, accumulated garbage, and unpleasant odors, creating a deplorable image of the surrounding area. This situation, far from being a one-off, has become a constant concern for both residents and the numerous visitors who are already arriving for the Easter holidays.

Despite the promises made by the governing group at the beginning of the year, when the first service outages occurred after the Christmas holidays, the situation has not only not improved, but has actually worsened. The lack of maintenance, the absence of effective collection, and the lack of planning mean the problem continues to recur, generating constant criticism on social media, in neighborhood groups, and in local media.

The massive tourist arrival expected in the coming days further exacerbates an already unsustainable situation. Adding to the municipality's poor image is the usual increase in waste at this time of year, with no visible reinforcement of the service or clear response from municipal officials. Citizens are demanding urgent solutions and prioritizing cleanliness and responsible management of one of the Canary Islands' main tourist destinations.
