The Canary Islands-based accelerator Gravitad, specializing in promoting technology startups, has closed a €30 million investment round from US funds. The transaction was led by Sinergy Alliance, which is committed to the Canary Islands' potential as a strategic hub for innovative entrepreneurship, with tourism in southern Gran Canaria as one of the geographic assets to be explored.
This financial backing will allow Gravitad, which also operates as an investment platform, to continue supporting emerging startups in the archipelago, with a special focus on those with scalable business models and international reach.
"The Canary Islands have the potential to become a leading technology hub, and our mission is to demonstrate this with facts," says Francisco Carballo, director of Gravitad. Gravitad emphasizes that the Canary Islands' special tax regime has been a key factor in attracting this foreign investment, highlighting its role as a catalyst in transforming the archipelago into a true technology hub.
Founded in 2019, the company aims to support more than 50 startups in its initial phase and generate nearly 200 direct jobs in the regional technology sector. In the medium term, Gravitad plans to mobilize up to €100 million in investment and expand its support network to more than 150 emerging companies. The agreement with Sinergy Alliance includes project financing between 2025 and 2030, consolidating Gravitad as a key player in the investment ecosystem and strengthening the Canary Islands' position as a hub for innovation and talent.
Although its epicenter is the islands, Gravitad also extends its activity to the Peninsula, with a presence in regions such as Castile and León and Galicia. Its focus encompasses strategic sectors such as blockchain, tokenization, smart agriculture, healthcare, and technological tourism, always with a highly technological and global approach. The company operates with a decentralized model, with operational presence in six countries and a technical team of 200 engineers, allowing it to attract talent and investment internationally. It also maintains alliances with academic institutions such as the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Vigo, strengthening the link between innovation, business, and knowledge.
