The CC coordinator in Gran Canaria, María Fernández, must have read Machiavelli a few days ago when he said that "it is much safer to be feared than to be loved if you can't be both." Because this Wednesday, at the presentation of the CC island congress, which will be led by Alejandro Marichal, the only elected leader and high-ranking official with power in the nationalist ranks on the island, she said that "we are living through a crucial moment for Canarian nationalism" and that to "better serve the people who live here" and achieve "a Gran Canaria of the future, without complexes," CC Gran Canaria "has a place for everyone." And there she added the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, leader of Juntos por Mogán. "She will continue to support us," said María Fernández. In that "has a place for everyone," Fernández alluded to those who, politically speaking, have left Nueva Canarias.
The Gran Canaria CC is preparing for its seventh island congress, which will take place on May 17th in Infecar under the slogan "Gran Canaria unites us," with a renewed and participatory approach. Ruymán Cardoso will lead the ideological presentation, and Alejandro Marichal, island vice-secretary and coordinator of the organizing committee, is positioned as a key figure in this event, notable for his leadership in the planning and execution of the pre-congress sessions, which address essential issues for the island's future.
Marichal emphasized in a press conference that this congress seeks to make a difference through broad participation, both internal and external, with open debates on housing, the demographic challenge, youth, and social and health policies. His role has been fundamental in ensuring that these roundtables reflect the real needs of the people of Gran Canaria, consolidating his strategic vision for the development of Gran Canaria.
For her part, María Fernández, general coordinator of CC Gran Canaria, emphasized that the chosen motto represents the spirit of unity and cross-cutting nature that defines this historic event, attended by more than 300 attendees and 240 delegates from the island's 21 municipalities. Fernández emphasized the importance of this congress as an opportunity to move toward a more open and committed organization focused on municipalism.
The pre-congress sessions, which begin on April 24, will address crucial topics such as the housing crisis, population growth, the future of youth, and senior care. These sessions seek to generate concrete proposals to improve the quality of life in key municipalities such as Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where CC has a strong presence. Ruymán Cardoso and Elizabeth Santana are leading the writing of the keynote presentations, which focus on the modernization of the island organization and a strategic plan for Gran Canaria. Cardoso emphasized the need to balance territorial representation and guarantee the rights of members, while Santana presented a shared vision for a more prosperous and sustainable future.
