Neighbors in Vecindario warn of an upsurge in crime that has generated a climate of concern in Santa Lucía de Tirajana.
In recent days, the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana has been the scene of several notable incidents requiring the intervention of security forces. An 18-year-old man was moderately injured after being stabbed in the neck. on La Paredilla Street, being transferred to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria by the Canary Islands Emergency Service. The Civil Guard has carried out several relevant actions, such as the arrest of a man accused of repeatedly trying to run over two people with which he had previous conflicts, as well as the arrest of Two individuals linked to a series of vehicle thefts and bank card scamsAnother man has also been arrested for attempted robbery, reinforcing the authorities' ongoing efforts to maintain security in this area of southeastern Gran Canaria.
During the first months of 2025, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and Vecindario in particular, has seen a significant increase in criminal acts ranging from home and business burglaries to knife attacks and altercations in public spaces.
Social media has become a platform for neighborhood discontent, with numerous users reporting the lack of visible patrols, poor street lighting, and a sense of neglect in troubled areas.
Incidents have also been reported in schools, parks, and avenues, which has heightened the perception of insecurity in the municipality. Citizens are demanding effective solutions, greater coordination between security forces, and a faster and more forceful institutional response.
Faced with this new scenario, the Civil Guard is attempting to strengthen its preventive operations in coordination with the Local Police.
