The key points of the agreement that ended the Easter hotel strike in the Canary Islands

GH MASPALOMAS24H Saturday, April 12, 2025

The tourism sector in the province of Las Palmas has managed to avoid a strike during the important Easter season, thanks to an agreement reached between the sector's unions and employers' associations. The agreement, signed by the president of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Employers (FEHT), José María Mañaricua, has the support of the province's main tourism business organizations.

Both parties have expressed their commitment to improving workers' purchasing power, always within a framework that guarantees the economic stability of companies. The agreement also underscores the essential role that tourism plays in creating jobs, wealth, and public revenue in the Canary Islands, and the importance of preserving social peace in a strategic sector.

One of the most notable points of the agreement is the granting of an extraordinary payment of €650 gross, which will be paid in the May 2025 payroll to full-time workers. The amount will be proportional for those with part-time jobs and will be calculated based on the time actually worked between April 1, 2024, and April 1, 2025. This bonus will not be consolidated and will not affect the salary scales of the agreement. The restaurant sector is excluded from this payment.

In addition, the agreement includes a 5% salary increase in 2025. This figure is the result of adding an additional 2,75% increase—agreed upon now and effective between April and December 2025—to the 2,25% already included in the current collective bargaining agreement.

For 2026, a 4% salary increase is being implemented, based on the salary scales in effect at the end of 2025. This increase will be incorporated directly into the next collective bargaining agreement, which will govern the 2026-2029 period, and will be the only salary increase planned for that year.

With this agreement, tourism industry employers and workers demonstrate once again that dialogue and negotiation are effective tools for ensuring job and economic stability in the archipelago's main economic engine. The cancellation of the strike ensures the normal operation of hotel operations during one of the most important seasons of the year.
