The contract for the Department of Security and Emergencies was awarded for €187.000 to the company Serviplustotal SL, which will have 4 months to supply and install the new towers on the beaches.

The Department of Security and Emergencies of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, headed by the sixth deputy mayor, José Carlos Álamo Ojeda, has signed a contract with the A Coruña-based company Serviplustotal SL to supply eight new lifeguard towers for the municipality's beaches. The contract was awarded for €8.

The City Council is renovating the lifeguard facilities to improve the provision of the rescue service and ensure the safety of lifeguards in compliance with occupational risk prevention regulations. The old towers, over 20 years old, are in serious disrepair, with numerous corrosion problems, cracks, and blocked drains that pose a risk to the workers and the safety of bathers.

“We are taking an important step in our commitment to the safety of our beaches. After installing four lifeguard towers just a few months ago, this acquisition of eight new units will allow us to advance one of our priority objectives: the complete renovation of the lifeguard and rescue equipment, which is currently in a significant state of disrepair. The new towers will not only improve the appearance and functionality of the coastline, but will also offer better working conditions and safety for lifeguard personnel, facilitating the performance of their essential work on our shores. Furthermore, we continue to work intensively to finalize the specifications for the new lifeguard, rescue, and surveillance service, a key project that we hope to complete soon and that will represent a leap in quality in the care and protection provided on our beaches,” says José Carlos Álamo.

The Department of Security expedited and pre-processed the renewal of the beach towers at the end of last October, after the Council approved a month earlier, at the end of September, to finance the new acquisition using the remaining funds from the Cooperation Plan with the Municipalities. Now, following the signing of the contract, which took place last Thursday, April 10, the successful bidder will have four months to supply the new towers and install them on the beaches.

Better features

The municipal plan to renew the beach surveillance posts to offer a greater and better service to users and also greater and better safety conditions for lifeguards began at the end of last November with €95.765 and the installation of the first four new towers on the beaches of El Inglés (2), Las Burras and Maspalomas.

To address this renovation, the Department of Safety opted to improve performance with modular installations adaptable to sandy terrain, easy to transport, and made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester laminate for greater resistance to temperature changes and marine salinity. It also recommended that the towers be equipped with large, sun-filtering windows for greater visibility; with support bases that respect sand aeration; equipped to house technical equipment for emergency intercoms with Civil Protection and the Local Police, and equipped with public address systems for bathers; and designed to be a striking color to be recognizable from any point on the beaches.
