Lucía Jiménez: "With this aid, nine economically vulnerable families will be able to improve the habitability and quality of life in their homes."

Alejandro Marichal: "We continue to be committed to providing affordable, rehabilitated, efficient housing adapted to the current needs of our population."

The Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has successfully processed the granting of aid totaling €88.400 from the Gran Canaria Housing Consortium. This grant is intended for basic home repairs for nine economically vulnerable families in the municipality. These subsidies, part of the 2024 call from the Gran Canaria Island Council, will allow beneficiaries to make urgent improvements to their homes, such as repairing basic installations, rehabilitating structures, and improving living conditions.

Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, explains that the council's team "has supported these nine families in the process of applying for these grants from the Gran Canaria Island Council. A total of 88.400 euros has been allocated so they can repair, rehabilitate, and reinforce the structures of their homes and improve their quality of life." The grants managed are part of the collaboration agreement signed in October 2021 between the City Council and the Gran Canaria Housing Consortium, with a duration of four years.

This agreement aims to facilitate access to grants for essential works such as urgent structural repairs; replacement or improvement of deteriorated basic installations (water, electricity, sanitation, etc.); or projects that improve the safety, health, or habitability of homes. The funds have already been transferred to the City Council and recorded in the municipal budget, and will be used exclusively to cover the costs of the works. Beneficiaries must now complete the necessary procedures—including formal acceptance of the grant, appointment of the contractor, and submission of budgets—to carry out the works within a maximum period of 10 months.

The first deputy mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana highlighted the social value of these grants, given that they improve the housing conditions of residents. "We are committed to providing affordable, renovated, efficient housing adapted to the current needs of our population," concludes Alejandro Marichal.

Along with this support, the Department of Housing continues to develop the strategic objectives defined in the 2024–2027 Housing Plan, which aims to guarantee access to decent housing for all citizens, based on three key pillars: the rehabilitation of existing public housing stock, the public promotion of new housing, and assistance to working families through rental subsidies.
