From southern Gran Canaria to Hamco AM: David Hernández's rise in investment management

YV Maspalomas24h Tuesday, April 22, 2025

From the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to one of the most dynamic independent asset managers in the Spanish market: David Hernández is one of the young faces embodying Hamco AM SGIIC's new commitment to talent and rigorous analysis. His recent addition to the Investment team marks a firm step forward in his career and reflects the firm's broader growth and consolidation strategy.

A young profile with a focus on excellence

David Hernández joined Hamco AM at the end of 2024, having trained in economics in his hometown of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. His career took off in the fintech ecosystem, with experience at Vumi Portfolio and Search Fund Relevian, where he worked in financial analysis and operations. These early years, marked by the agility and dynamism of the technology sector, have forged in David an analytical and practical perspective that fits with the value-driven philosophy that Hamco promotes.

"We look for professionals with a critical mindset, capable of understanding both the markets and the business behind each asset," explains the asset manager. In this sense, Hernández represents this new hybrid profile: young analysts with solid training, international experience, and a strong foundation in technological innovation.

Hamco strengthens its analytical muscle

David Hernández's arrival coincides with a strategic push by Hamco AM focused on strengthening its core business: investment analysis and management. He was joined by Gabriel Herrera, with experience at institutions such as Banco Sabadell and Ocean Bank, and Marta Sebastià recently joined as financial controller. At the same time, two key talents, Daniel Puleo and Juan José Torrecillas, were promoted internally to the operations and analysis areas.

According to Pablo Istillarte, Director of Operations, "These internal additions and promotions reflect our commitment to talent and growth, strengthening our position as a leading asset manager in the Spanish market."

Canary Islands, a breeding ground for financial talent

David Hernández's story also highlights the growing role of the Canary Islands as a breeding ground for finance professionals. Although still far from the major financial hubs of Madrid or Barcelona, training in economics and management at Canarian universities, combined with the opportunities offered by the digital internationalization of the sector, allows outstanding profiles to make the leap to leading firms without going under the radar.

For Hernández, the new challenge at Hamco represents "an opportunity to grow within a team that focuses on in-depth analysis and investment with conviction."

A path that is just beginning

Although his career at Hamco AM is just getting started, David Hernández is already part of the new face of value investing in Spain. From the south of Gran Canaria to the financial heart of Madrid, his story reflects a new generation that combines local training, global experience, and long-term ambition.
