The Minister of Economic Development highlights the Council's commitment to promoting local products, responsible consumption, and sustainable development.

This weekend, Ingenio's Plaza de la Candelaria becomes the epicenter of local produce with the celebration of the latest edition of the Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair. This event brings together 50 producers from 15 municipalities across the island and aims to boost the local economy, promote sustainable consumption habits, and support those who preserve our landscape.

The opening of the fair, which will be held on April 26 and 27 from 09:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m., was attended by the Councilor for Economic Development of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Minerva Alonso, who noted that Ingenio was the pioneering municipality in launching this initiative in 2020, at a particularly difficult time for local producers. “Ingenio was the first municipality to support this fair when it was most needed. Today, its consolidation demonstrates that local produce is not only a quality alternative, but also a key tool for the economic development and sustainability of Gran Canaria,” emphasized Alonso, who was accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, Vanesa Martín.

This year's Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair will feature significant representation from the host municipality, with seven local producers participating. Cheese in all its forms will be a key focus thanks to the presence of six island cheese factories. Visitors will also find artisan bread, gluten-free and vegan pastries, sea salt, wines, honey, fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, vegetable pâtés, jams, free-range eggs, chorizo, aloe vera, pasta, and artisanal ice cream.

In addition, the fair offers a full agenda of parallel activities that will make Ingenio an attractive destination for the entire weekend: a showcase of artisans from the town of Ingenio, free guided tours of the Historic Center departing at 10:30, 11:30, and 12:30, gastronomic entertainment in restaurants in the town with dishes such as traditional bread soup, live music around the Plaza de la Candelaria, children's activities, and the celebration of Dance Day by the Coros y Danzas de Ingenio group, as part of World Dance Day.

“The Km.0 Fair is much more than a local market: it's an opportunity for residents and visitors to discover the enormous value of our products, our gastronomy, our heritage, and our traditions,” the councilor emphasized. “Each edition is a step closer to a Gran Canaria that's more connected to its identity and more aware of the importance of supporting our people.”

The Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair is promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Crafts of the Ingenio City Council and has the collaboration of the Department of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, Gran Canaria Tourism, Cajasiete, and the Gran Canaria Mosaic program.
