History repeats itself in southern Gran Canaria: three fires have now been recorded in the same area of San Fernando, an abandoned ravine near Bellavista, where homeless people survive among dry scrub and precarious structures. Since the attempt in Bellavista last summer, passing through the shanty fire and the recent vegetation fire, the pattern seems clear, although questions remain unanswered.
Concern among residents grows as time passes and the ravine continues to accumulate risks. Will we have to wait for a fourth fire to act? The presence of irregular settlements, the lack of vegetation maintenance, and institutional inaction are once again testing the patience of a community demanding solutions before the next spark ends in tragedy.
