Gran Canaria Tourism held a new edition of its Professional Tourism Conference this week, strongly focusing on the domestic market and Portugal, with strategic stops in Zaragoza, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, and Murcia. These initiatives are part of the strategy to boost tourism on the mainland in Gran Canaria, with the support of leading brands such as Binter, Lopesan, Seaside, LIVVO, Princess, Dunas, and the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council.
Each workshop brought together between 35 and 55 travel agents, establishing direct contact with leading tour operators. The interest shown reinforces Gran Canaria's position as one of the favorite destinations for those planning to travel to the Canary Islands from the Peninsula. Agents particularly valued the new routes, the excellent hotel offerings in Gran Canaria, and the island's renewed leisure and nature offerings.
This year's edition focused specifically on Mediterranean areas and strategic cities such as Valencia and Murcia, recently connected thanks to the expansion of Binter Canarias' air connections. Strengthening air connectivity is a priority for the growth of domestic tourism in Gran Canaria, allowing it to attract more visitors of high interest to the island.
One of the destinations benefiting most from this strategy is Maspalomas. According to recent data, mainland tourism in Maspalomas will already represent more than 2024% of hotel occupancy by 20, with an 8% increase compared to the previous year. Vacations in Maspalomas have become a popular choice among domestic travelers attracted by its year-round warm climate, luxury resort offerings, and unique natural surroundings.
Gran Canaria Tourism will continue this promotional effort in May with activities in several cities in Portugal and Badajoz, consolidating its presence in key source markets and reaffirming its commitment to quality domestic tourism in the Canary Islands.
