Plaza de la Candelaria in Ingenio became the epicenter of local produce last weekend, hosting the latest edition of the Km.O Gran Canaria Fair on April 26 and 27.
The event, which brought together 50 producers from 15 municipalities on the island, attracted more than 11.000 visitors, establishing itself as a key event for promoting the local economy and responsible consumption.
The fair offered a wide variety of locally sourced agricultural products. Attendees could enjoy cheeses, fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, vegetable pâtés, sweets, gluten-free and vegan pastries, salt, wines, coffee, honey, bread, jams, free-range eggs, chorizo, aloe vera, artisanal pasta, and homemade ice cream.
In addition to the gastronomic offerings, the fair featured a showcase of local crafts, a feature that sets this fair apart from other fairs held regularly. A culinary program was also held, with the participation of numerous local restaurants. The program was rounded out with free guided tours of Ingenio's historic center, live music in venues around Plaza de la Candelaria, and children's activities.
On Sunday, April 27, the fair was enriched with the celebration of Dance Day, organized by the AC
Choirs and Dances of Ingenio, which included performances by different groups and collectives.
This year's Km.O Gran Canaria Fair was hosted by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Crafts of the Ingenio City Council, in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Gran Canaria Tourism, the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, Cajasiete, and Gran Canaria Mosaico. The event is promoted and organized by Elipse, Event Management.
Catalina Sánchez, Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock, and Farming of the Villa de Ingenio, emphasized that "the holding of the Km.O Gran Canaria Fair represents support for the municipality's producers and a tool to reinforce the need for local products among the population." The Councilor
Minerva Alonso stated that "at the Km.O Gran Canaria Fairs, people don't just come to buy, they also come to build relationships with producers to continue buying in the future."
The organizers of the Km.O Gran Canaria Fair remind us once again that the Fair doesn't end when its doors close, but rather continues with the purchase of local agricultural products in markets, supermarkets, directly from producers, and at other fairs held on the island.
