Alejandro Marichal: “The goal is to ease the financial burden on families who, despite having jobs, struggle to afford rent.”
Lucía Jiménez: "We will modify the application rules so that the largest possible number of families can apply in future calls."
A total of 52 people have been provisionally proposed as beneficiaries of the rental assistance for working families, promoted for the first time by the Housing Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council for the period 2023-2024. This new line of subsidies, a pioneer in the municipality, responds to the commitment of the area headed by Lucía Jiménez to guarantee access to decent housing for sectors of the population who, despite having a salary, face financial difficulties in meeting the cost of rent.
In total, they were presented 148 requests, of which 52 have been proposed for the award. The rest were rejected for various reasons identified during the evaluation process: 29 applications were excluded for exceeding the income thresholds established by the IPREM, 11 for not proving their status as self-employed or employed workers, in addition to other refusals motivated by the lack of registration with the required seniority and failure to correct documentary errors.
The Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, has indicated that the City Council has the will to “Consolidate these aids in the next fiscal years, expanding the criteria so that they reach the largest possible number of families.".
For his part, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Urban Planning, Alejandro Marichal, has highlighted that these aids mean “a milestone in the municipality's housing policy, aimed at alleviating the economic burden of rent among families who, despite having employment, face difficulties in meeting housing costs." He also added that this measure is part of the Housing Plan 2024–2027, which also includes the rehabilitation of the public housing stock, The Construction of new protected housing developments in collaboration with VISOCAN, and the Urban planning regularization to enable land for affordable housing"This plan seeks to provide a comprehensive response to the need for access to decent housing and transform the municipality into a place where our residents don't have to move to other municipalities," Marichal concluded.
