In light of recent statements from the municipal opposition regarding the status of the Siam Park project, Davinia Ramírez, Councilor for Urban Planning of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, warns that "politics is not done with opportunistic headlines or selective neglect, but with work and results." In this regard, the councilor for the area first expresses her gratitude for "the opposition's renewed interest in the future of Siam Park" but reminds them that "it would be more honest to acknowledge that part of the uncertainty surrounding this project stems from the poor management of the previous term, when Ms. Narváez was Mayor."
In this regard, he clarified, with verifiable data and a sense of responsibility, that “since we assumed the Urban Planning portfolio in June 2023, the current governing group has responded effectively, completing all the necessary procedures in just two years. In summary,” Ramirez emphasized, “in June 2024, the City Council unanimously approved the initiation of the process for the new El Veril Modernization Plan , correcting the errors of the previous phase. Numerous technical and political meetings have been held with the Government of the Canary Islands , which now holds the exclusive authority to finalize the approval of the Modernization Plan. Furthermore, we have worked diligently to incorporate all the necessary reports, such as those concerning environmental impact, water availability, territorial planning, and economic viability .”
Finally, the Councilor for Urban Planning reminds everyone that the license cannot be granted until the Canary Islands Government approves the new Master Plan for El Veril , a process governed by regional regulations and subject to environmental review. The responsibility now lies with the regional government. Siam Park, Ramírez concludes, “is a strategic project for Gran Canaria. Out of respect for the citizens and the opportunities this park represents for employment and tourism, I ask for responsibility and cooperation. We are no longer in campaign mode: it is time to rebuild trust and unblock projects.
