Fashion 'manifests' in the streets of the capital of Gran Canaria

The event returns to the city center for its tenth edition with 72 participating companies, gastronomic days and street parades

Fashion literally took over the streets of the center of the Gran Canaria capital today with the inaugural shows of the Gran Canaria Fashion & Friends Collection, which this year opted for a new staging. And the models came armed with banners with the Google Maps location point and wearing clothing from the participating brands, with daring eighties-inspired makeup and hair looks. In this way, they walked from San Pedro Street to Stagno Square, picking up friends - walkers attracted by some of the garments - until they reached the stand of the brands they were wearing and met with the public concentrated in the square.

 

That will also be the dynamic in tomorrow's shows, “a fashion demonstration in the street”, at 17:30 p.m. and 19:00 p.m. and on Sunday at 13:00 p.m., in each of which 16 brands will participate. , ranging from urban or bathroom design, to yoga or surfing. Consolidated brands that belong to the Moda Cálida program such as Arcadio Domínguez, Nuria González or Arantxa Arenas, or others such as Kunstarte, Yo Canario, Muchiachio.clothing, Nanue Brand, Besito Volao, Chacho Souvenirs or Chico Sensible Club.

 

But it is not the only novelty of this tenth edition of Moda y Amigos, the event that is committed to new talent and the consolidation of fashion companies organized by the Ministry of Industry, since it returns to the center of the capital and, in addition, replaces the traditional Picnic area for some gastronomic days, GastroFriends, thanks to the involvement of the commercial associations of Triana and Vegueta. 

 

The president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, who reviewed the proposals of the 72 companies participating in this first day, wanted to invite all citizens to come this weekend to Plaza Stagno “so that they can see first-hand the extraordinary talent and tenacious entrepreneurship of the island and that now more than ever deserve the support of all the people of Gran Canaria,” he declared. 

 

Of those 72 brands, 25 are participating for the first time. By sector, they are distributed among 41 textile and clothing companies: 22 in fashion accessories, 5 in art, 5 in decoration and 2 belonging to the lifestyle sector. 

 

The exhibitor area is located outdoors, with a large assembly of pagodas and the opening hours will be from 12 to 20:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m. on Sunday. 

 

“We believe that the combination of culture and fashion that is achieved with this location will be a success, and we want to thank the Pérez Galdós Theater for welcoming us in this sense and encourage citizens to participate in an event that will be more urban than ever, in which will be able to support not only emerging fashion companies but also local restaurants,” declared the Minister of Industry and Commerce Minerva Alonso.

 

Supporting the restaurant sector

 

And the Picnic area, so traditional in Fashion, disappears as such and is transformed into Gastrofriends, a gastronomic event where 26 restaurants participate, thanks to the involvement of the Zona Triana Business Association and the Vegueta Leisure and Restaurant Association, in which also collaborates with the Gran Canaria Me Gusta program, which already received numerous visitors eager to try one of the tapas made by each of the affiliated establishments. They all have a badge on the door, with the image of Fashion&Friends and the text: Local GastroFriends. For their part, customers who order the cover can participate in a contest through Instagram, thanks to the support of one of Fashion&Friends' sponsors, Volkswagen Canarias.

 

The contest consists of taking a photo of the cover, uploading it to Instagram and tagging #GastroFriends, and following Gran Canaria Like and Volkswagen Canarias. As prizes, a weekend with one of the Volkswagen models and several lots of products from Gran Canaria will be raffled. I like it. In addition to Volkswagen, JLH Peluquerías (José Luis de Las Heras) and Jennifer García Make Up collaborate.
