The City Council unanimously approves key investments for the municipal electricity supply, the expansion of the cemetery, urban improvements in Meloneras 2-A, and social, educational, and employment assistance.

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council approved this Tuesday, in its ordinary April session, the allocation of €7,5 million to supply electricity for public lighting between 2026 and 2027. The contract will include all current and future points, municipal facilities, and holiday consumption. The tender will be officially opened through the Official Journal of the European Union and the contractor's profile.

At the same plenary session, the final green light was given to the modification of the General Plan in Meloneras 2-A, a large-scale urban development project that unlocks more than 300.000 m² of public land, allowing for the reactivation of hotel investments valued at more than €700 million, with capacity for 3.600 new beds and the creation of 1.500 jobs. The plan includes road improvements, increased emergency safety, and the reorganization of green areas without losing any surface area.

The City Council also approved social grants worth €108.000 for local associations, along with the addition of new nominal grants for psychological support and homeless care projects, totaling an additional €160.000.

A new boost to job training through the PFAES was also agreed upon, with €54.000 to certify projects under the ISO standard and €24.500 for their continuation between 2026 and 2028, in areas such as masonry, plumbing, and electricity.

Other plenary agreements included the adhesion to the Starlight Declaration in defense of the night sky, the extension of the agreement with Grafcan to provide updated digital cartography, and the construction of 256 new niches in the El Lomo Cemetery, with an investment of 198.000 euros. Finally, the new municipal population register was confirmed as of January 1, 2025, with a total of 57.897 residents.
