A woman died this Tuesday, May 6, after drowning in the waters of the Maspalomas Lighthouse. Emergency crews unsuccessfully attempted to revive her after rescuing her from the sea in cardiac arrest.
A woman died on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after being found floating in the sea near the Maspalomas Lighthouse, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 received the call at 13:58 p.m. and immediately activated all emergency resources.
Red Cross first responders rescued the victim, who was in cardiac arrest, and began basic CPR on the spot. A medical helicopter from the SUC landed next to the Maspalomas pond, where medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service and a Primary Care team (a doctor and nurse from the Maspalomas health center) continued the advanced phase of the rescue. Despite all efforts, they were only able to confirm the death.
The responding services were assisted by the Local Police, who facilitated access to the area and assisted with coordination, while the National Police took charge of the corresponding investigations to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
